Weekly Recap

I haven’t done this in a few weeks. My mind hasn’t really been in the right place. I’m doing better after losing my cat, so thank you all who reached out and for your kind words. I really, really appreciate it. Also, thank you Melissa from Books and Things for the lovely key chain to honor my fallen friend. I still have a hard time especially when I see his pictures, but I am doing better.

My reading has been going okay so far. I have my good days and my bad days. I have currently read 42 out of my goal of 100. I am 10 books ahead \o/. I am struggling. Lately any adult romance I pick up have been blah. Like literally leaving me in physical paints trying to read it. I’m one of those people that cannot DNF cause I feel like I already put some time into it I have to see it through – even if it’s causing a brain bleed.

Oh well, in between trying to plow threw the books that are not working for me, I have been picking others up. Currently I am listening to Sleeping Giants and it is probably the only Audiobook ever so far that I absolutely love. I love the different cast of people, it kind of reminds me of listening to one of those old radio shows. It’s awesome.

Anyway. If you guys have some good book recommendations, I’d love to hear what you are currently reading, or what you read that you loved so far?

Monthly Wrap Up

In the month of April I read 11 books. Woah I know right? I did have some amazing reads. I really loved Alex, Approximately, Where the Dead Lie, Walk of Shame and Prisoner of Ice and Snow. I only gave one book this month and apparently this year and possibly ever a 1 star. I am starting to see that my reading and reviewing is different. I don’t give out 4.5 and 5 stars like candy. Most books average at 3 stars these days. Also, Sophia reviewed on the blog 4 times this month with some really interesting reads 🙂

Best of April

Currently Reading

1.Lethal Lies – This one is a struggle. I dislike Anya a lot, she is reckless, desperate and irritating. 2. Sleeping Giants – I am following my book while listening to the audio. I am loving this one so many levels. I wish I had more time to listen to it. 3. The Upside of Unrequited – Wish I read the blurb for this one because this one mentions body image and low self esteem and I already feel like I know where this is going and it isn’t clicking with me. I know Albertalli is beloved by people, I’m probably going to be a black sheep on this one.

  1. Take it one day at a time. Oooh, I didn’t learn to DNF until my late forties, and once I did it was so freeing. Glad to see you posting. I am starting Lethal Lies and hope I have better beginnings with it.

  2. Sleeping Giants seems like it would be really good on audio. I read the physical book but the way the story is set up audio would seem like a great way to do it! And I want to read Alex, Approximately…

Glad things are getting better for you and neat that you got so many well wishes.

Yes, sometimes the mood sours on a genre and at the same time you get a few less than good ones to really make it bad. Neat that Sleeping Giants and Alex, Approximately and a few others have come through for you this month.

Wishing you a great May, Lily!

  4. I am glad you are doing better, that must have been tough. You need to get on the DNF train it seems. It will save you so many bad books. I get it is hard though. I have Darm Matter coming up so I am excited you liked it and I will have to check out the Sleeping Giants audio.

  5. I DNF books ALL.THE.TIME. Probably the majority of books I start I don’t end up finishing. I just lose interest – I have the world’s shortest attention span, and if a book doesn’t keep me reading, I just give up! I never feel bad about it – I have so little free time to read that I can’t afford to waste a single precious moment on a book that doesn’t do it for me. 🙂

  6. Lily, we are so, so sorry to hear about your cat. We are sending all the virtual hugs to you. Our animals have such special places in our hearts, and losing them is the worst kind of hurt. I’m glad you had such great reads in April. We are learning to DNF, as well; it was hard at first, but it’s such a relief to not force ourselves to read something we’re not enjoying.

  7. I am so sorry to hear about your cat. Losing a family member is so very hard. I have learned to dnf although I really don’t do it often. I always keep thinking a book will get better but it most cases it doesn’t. I hope you find some books that work better for you soon. I may have to check out the audio for Sleeping Giants. I liked the book and the audio sounds fun. I hope you have a much improved May.

  8. So sorry to hear you’ve had such a tough time and so sorry about your cat. Sending all the good vibes your way.
Glad to hear you enjoyed Alex, Approximately and Walk of Shame, both are on my TBR. And so is The Upside of Unrequited, so I hope you’ll enjoy that one!

  9. I’m so sorry about your kitty. Sending you positive thoughts. <3

I've started DNF'ing recently, it's just that I have so many books now that need to be read that if I'm not liking the one I'm reading, I want to move on. I wasn't like that before.

Hope you have a better week. ~Aleen

  10. Oh my gosh. I missed the original post about your kitty. I am so sorry to hear that. Lots of love from us here in NC. I know that’s very difficult. Melissa is such a sweetie. She sent one when I lost a herd babe last year as well. Such a good blogger friend. I hope this week is a little easier for you and the happy memories start pushing away the sad ones.
