The New York Times bestselling author of On Dublin Street returns to the bar where it all began with Braden and Joss for a white-hot new novella full of passion and drama.
When he’s not working at the club, Craig Lanaghan looks out for his mother and little sisters. So when it comes to women, all he wants is a good time. But once Rain Alexander walks into his life, there’s no denying that this woman could be worth much more than a one-night stand….
Rain’s lifelong regret is having left her sister Darcy alone years ago with a guardian who turned out to be abusive. So when Darcy’s boyfriend publicly humiliates her in a cruel way, Rain’s overprotective instincts kick in and she follows him to Club 39—where she meets a guy who just might be her perfect match.
The chemistry between Rain and Craig is explosive, but Rain is out for revenge, and refuses to be sidetracked by flirtation. As things between them heat up, she’ll have to make a heartbreaking choice between giving in to the man of her dreams or putting her sister’s happiness first….

Big fan of the Samantha Young’s work, so naturally I couldn’t wait to pick up One King’s Way. Naturally I was nervous, this was a novella, but Young did an amazing job not only the way she used the novella to tell the story, but the length of it was perfect. It went smoothly and wrapped up perfectly without leaving me wanting more. I actually felt, satisfied.

The story follows Craig the bartender who sets his sights on the beautiful Rain. Can we just talk about how cool Rain sounds with her 1940s pin up girl fashion? Seriously makes me want to go vintage dress clothes hunting. Craig was, interesting. A flirty bartender who likes his one night stands until Rain comes along and changes his whole perspective. Craig is a realist, Rain is a romantic who is looking for someone that will devote their entire being to her. She wants to be loved so bad, she is basically looking for a can’t sleep, can’t eat, my love for you consumes me kind of love.

Rain meets Craig in a bar when she comes to the club to take revenge on her sister’s ex, who drove her out of town by doing something really disgusting.

I liked the way Young handled their relationship. There was a bit of an insta-lust, but I found the connection worked. I think Rain makes Craig a little better. I did want to roll my eyes a bit on what she was asking of him, but I get it, who doesn’t want love like that? It was cute how Craig despite being a realist found himself not only falling for her, but also kind of living up to her expectations. The chemistry was steamy and worked.

The flow of this novella worked. It didn’t feel too rushed for me. I did not finish it in one shot, even thought I wanted to and Young did wrap it up pretty nicely without me feeling like there should be more.

Also, I love the fact that Jo and Joss show up in this book. So we get a kind of a glimpse into their current lives as well!

The banter was also fun and exciting and if you love a good book with wonderful characters and a bit of steam, this one is for you.

I haven’t read any of Samantha Young her books so far, but heard good things about them. Novella’s can be tricky, but it’s great when the lenght fits the story. I don’t mind insta-lust, if the relationship builds-up nicely to the love part. These two sound great for each other. Great Review!
