Hi guys! Today is a dreary and a long day, but I got some brighter news. Please welcome author Jennie Marts to the blog today as she answers a couple of questions for us. Her new book Hidden Away is expected to be published November 16th 2015 by Entangled: Select Contemporary .

Tell us a little about your recent release?

Hidden Away is the 2nd book in The Hearts of Montana series. It’s a small town love story about second chances. Cherry Hill’s life changes in a single moment with a phone call telling her that her cousin has been killed and has left her the guardian of her eight year old nephew, Sam. Sheriff Taylor Johnson left Broken Falls and the girl he loved nine years ago, but now he’s back and determined to save Cherry and Sam. Their pretend family quickly turns into something real, but secrets have a way of revealing themselves.

This book is funny and tender and will pull on your heartstrings, but hopefully you will fall in love with Cherry, Taylor, and Sam the way I did.

How did you first come up with the inspiration to write Hidden Away?

After graduating from college, my husband and I moved to a small town in Montana, and we absolutely loved it. I am originally from a small town in Kansas, and I just love the closeness of small towns and how everyone knows each other and pitches in to help when one of their own is in trouble. I also love second chance stories. People make mistakes all the time, and I’m a big fan of getting that second chance to make things right and turn a mistake into a happy ending.

Which character did you find easiest to write and why? Do you ever base characters on people you know?

My heroines are usually the easiest characters for me to write. Writing Sam’s dialogue and the scenes with Sam would rip my heart out, and I would often find myself crying as I wrote some of his scenes. And I have absolutely based characters on people I know. I had very close relationships with both of my grandma’s and they both tend to seep into all of my older ladies characters. And a lot of secondary characters of people in the small towns tend to have similiarities of people I actually know. My main characters are usually complete figments of my imagination though with their own personalities and quirks.

What do you like about the relationship between Cherry and Taylor?

I love the way they laugh and tease each other. And that they’ve known each other since they were kids so they have a lot of history. There is something special about those couples that went to school together and grew up around each other’s families.

What is your favorite thing about Montana?

Oh gosh, there are so many things. The people mostly. The way the people take care of each other. Life is slower in Montana. There are fewer people and fewer towns and most of the towns are small. The sky really seems bigger and is so beautifully blue. The scenery is gorgeous and the Northern Lights are amazing to witness. We had our kids while we were there and made some of our closest friends while we lived there- people that we are still close to today. So Montana holds a lot of amazing memories for us. We really loved it.

How did it feel to publish your first book?

Amazing! Surreal! The best! It’s a long journey to publish your first book and I learned so much along that journey. But it was an amazing experience. And I am so blessed to be able to be living my dream. And every new book I write is such a huge fist-punch feeling of accomplishment and excitement.

What inspired you to become an author?

I have always wanted to be a writer. I wrote my first mystery in fifth grade. I always knew that someday I would write a book. Then my kids were graduating high school, and I just knew it was time. So I took classes, joined RWA and found a local chapter, went to writing conferences and I actually sat down and wrote a book. Then I rewrote it a couple of times-haha. And then I just kept writing.

How would you describe your writing style?

I try to write at least five days a week and I give myself word count goals of 2000 words a day. I still work part-time 3 days a week, so my days off are spent writing. I used to be a ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ writer, but now that I am trying to write 3-4 books a year, I HAVE to plot. I just don’t have time to wait for the story to come to me. When I am writing, I am consumed by the book—I go to sleep thinking about it and I wake up thinking about the new scene I plan to write that day.

DoingJen Halloween 2015 anything for halloween? any family traditions? :)

We did dress up for Halloween and attended a Halloween dance. I love to dress up and I get a kick out of all of the trick-or-treaters and passing out candy. I am including a pic of me from this year’s Halloween- when you have a purple witch’s hat- you use any excuse to wear it. :)

What are you working on next?

I am currently working on a new series called the Bannister Brothers about a family of brothers. So far, the first two brothers, Bane and Owen, play hockey, the third is a rock star, and the fourth is the cute, smart nerdy little brother who is an accountant and takes care of all of their money. The first novella- Worth the Shot is available right now in the Mischief Under the Mistletoe box set and Icing On the Date is available for preorder from Amazon. You can find all of my books on my Jennie Marts Amazon author page.

Barton_One Wild Winter's Eve_MMAbout ONE WILD WINTER’S EVE

ONCE YOU’VE HAD A TASTE OF SCANDAL . . .

As the Duke of Huntford’s sister, Lady Rose Sherbourne follows the rules of well-bred society. Always chaperoned. Never engaging in unseemly behavior. Well, except for that one summer, years ago. And yet she’s never been able to forget that handsome stable master or the stolen moments they shared. She’s always wondered what might have happened if he hadn’t disappeared without a word . . . Now she’s about to find out.

YOU CAN NEVER GO BACK

Charles Holland never expected to see Lady Rose again. And yet the years haven’t lessened his devotion-or his desire-in any way. Despite their differences in class, Charles cannot stop himself from wanting to possess her. But as they uncover one intimate secret after another about her family, they realize that, this time, their love may come at a very dear price . . .

Welcome to Night Owl Book Cafe, Anne Barton, so very excited to have you. In light of your new release One Wild Winter’s Eve Published October 27th 2015 by Forever. I want to thank you so much for answering a few questions for us readers.

Thanks so much for having me!

Tell us about One Wild Winter’s Eve twitter style, 140 words or less :)

Lady Rose Sherbourne has always been the quiet sister, the very voice of reason. She knows she must marry a respectable gentleman—and her first love is anything but. Charles once worked in her brother’s stables, but he has big dreams. And more than anything, he wants Rose. There are just a few things standing in their way: an angry duke, a jealous countess, and, um, prison.

What are the three things you love about Lady Rose Sherbourne ?

She’s wise and thoughtful and would sacrifice anything to help the people she loves. She’s made appearances in the first three books (and novella) in the Honeycote series, and many readers have told me she’s their favorite.

What was your favorite moment in One Wild Winter’s Eve between Lady Rose and Charles Holland?

When they’re in the loft of Charles’s cottage during a snowstorm. There’s something so magical about snow! (Ha! We’ll see if I still feel that way in January.)

Did you find any part of this book difficult to write?

Yes! Without giving too much away, some of the scenes between family members were emotional to write. After four books, these characters feel like family to me.

What inspired you to write this series and how do you feel this book especially differs from the others prior to it?

I started out wanting to write about a really strong heroine who dares to rise above her station (Anabelle from WHEN SHE WAS WICKED). And while all the Honeycote books feature strong heroines, they’re each strong in different ways. Daphne is kind and determined. Olivia is fearless and passionate. Rose is different because even though she’s the youngest, she’s like a wise old soul.

What do you love most about Historical Romance?

So many things! Historical romance is a great escape, but it’s also rooted in reality which makes it the best of both worlds. Plus, I’m a sucker for a gorgeous ball gown.

If you could live in any time period, what would it be?

I’m pretty happy in 2015!

What Regency dress would you love to get your hands on?

I don’t have a particular favorite. Probably something slimming in a spring green!

Your favorite Duke in books or movies?

Wulfric Bedwyn, Duke of Bewcastle, from Mary Balogh’s Slightly Series. He’s arrogant, cold, and unfailingly proper—which makes it so much fun to watch him fall in love.

If you are celebrating Halloween, do you have any traditions with your family?

My main tradition is raiding my daughter’s trick or treat bag for Heath bars and Baby Ruths.

Outside of writing your next book, do you have any other small project you are working on in life?

Not really a project, but I love watching period dramas like Downton Abbey, Poldark, Vikings, and Outlander.

About Anne Barton

Anne Barton began swiping romance novels off her mom's bookshelf as a teenager, so when she had the chance to spend a semester in London-home to her favorite heroes-she packed her bags and promptly fell in love with the city, its history, and its pubs. She dreamed of writing romance, but somehow ended up a software analyst instead.

Fortunately, a few years and a few careers later, Anne found her way back to writing the stories she loves and in 2011 won the Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart® for Regency Historical Romance. She lives in Maryland with her husband (who, sadly, is not a peer of the realm-but a great guy nonetheless) and her three children, who try valiantly not to roll their eyes whenever she quotes Jane Austen. Her weaknesses include reality TV, cute-but-impractical shoes, and caffeinated beverages of all kinds.

The Wrong Bride (Highland Weddings #1) by Gayle Callen

Happy monday everyone. I hope you all have enjoyed your weekend. Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get back to work. While you are having your coffee, I have an interview for you today with the author of The Wrong Bride (Highland Weddings #1), Gayle Callen. The book is being released October 27th 2015 by Avon, please look for my review on it later this week. Welcome to NightOwl Book Cafe, Gayle Callen and thank you so much for joining us and answering a few questions for us readers.

I’m happy to be here, thanks!

For those new to your writing, tell us a bit about your new series Highland Weddings, especially the first book in the series, The Wrong Bride

THE WRONG BRIDE is part of my first trilogy set in Scotland. Two warring clans decide to make peace with an arranged marriage. When the bride’s side tries to back out, the groom feels justified in a kidnapping. Problem is—he kidnaps the wrong bride!

What are the three things you love about Hugh McCallum ?

Hugh is a man intent on proving to his clan that they can respect and trust him, even though they’ve spent little time with him.

He may have kidnapped Riona, but he still intends to woo her and be patient.

He sometimes thinks his way is the right way… (or maybe that’s common to men in general?)

What about your favorite moment in The Wrong Bride?

I really like the first kiss scene. They’ve arrived at the clan castle, and Riona has now realized she has some power over Hugh, her kidnapper. She’ll keep quiet about the kidnapping (since she knows no one will believe her anyway), while she’s trying to find a way to escape, but in exchange, she wants answers and explanations from him. He admires her daring, and to show her he’s still in control, he kisses her. And the fun part is that this whole scene takes place while Riona is in the bathtub. Her refusal to back down in such a vulnerable situation made me smile.

Did you find any part of this book difficult to write?

Coming up with the ending was difficult, because I needed it to tie into the next book, THE GROOM WORE PLAID (March 2016). But I can’t tell you details without giving it away!

If The Wrong Bride got cast as a movie, who would you imagine would play the role of Hugh McCallum and Riona?

I love Hugh Jackman. He could play MY Hugh any day. As for Riona, I think Scarlet Johansen could pull it off.

How will the rest of the books in the series differ from this one?

The first two books are connected because of a marriage contract signed when all were children. In the first book, Hugh is determined to claim his rightful bride, and when her family balks, he kidnaps her. In the second book, THE GROOM WORE PLAID, I can’t give details without revealing too much, but let’s just say that the heroine is haunted by a vision of her groom dying on her wedding day, so naturally, she resists getting married! As for the third book, I haven’t written it yet, so who knows…

What inspired you to write a Highlander romance, or historical romance in general?

896621I fell in love with historical romance the first time I read Kathleen Woodiwiss’s SHANNA. Before that, I was a sci fi and fantasy girl, but AFTER that, I dove into historicals. They’re still my favorite type of book to read, so naturally, it’s the first thing I wanted to write. I was first published in medievals for six books, then I moved to the Victorian era for many books. I decided it was time for a new challenge, and Scotland seemed the most exciting to me!

Do you have a favorite trope in romance?

I love marriage of convenience stories.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you visit?

Scotland! After all the research I’ve done these last few months, I’m ready to see some Highlands and lochs.

Your favorite Highlander in books or movies?

Jamie Frazer from OUTLANDER. He’s the reason I set this trilogy right around the same time period.

If you are celebrating Halloween, do you have any traditions with your family?

We do all love to dress up—including dressing up the dog! She’s been the wolf that ate grandmother and Sven the reindeer from FROZEN.

Outside of writing your next book, do you have any other small project you are working on in life?

I love to crochet. Every time a new baby is on its way, I start a new baby blanket or sweater.

Thanks for the great interview!
