BLURB:

Ryan
Cosgrove and Liliana Delgado are on a collision course with destiny.
They don’t know it yet, but before the night is over their lives will
be forever changed.

Spending
Valentine’s Day at a burlesque bar, hadn’t been Liliana’s ideal way
of spending a Friday night. She’d much rather be back at campus,
doing homework… until she meets Ryan. Tall, athletic, and gorgeous,
Lili can’t keep her eyes off him, and despite his gruff manners and
drunken disposition she’s intrigued.

Ryan’s
got demons, and they’re deep, dark, and eating him alive. Regardless
of his attraction to the petite brunette he’s tired of fighting, of
pretending the last fifteen years haven’t been a daily struggle just
to get out of bed every morning. That night he decides to end his
pain, to leave it all behind and float away into the blessed darkness
of oblivion. But fate has other plans for him, Lily finds and rescues
Ryan, determined she’ll not only save his body, but his soul too.

This
is their moment…
Excerpt

The
doors slide open with a loud whoosh. Huffing the bangs out of my eyes
I look up and my heart stills.
In fact,
everything seems to freeze. It’s a strange sensation, sounds grow
dim, and the world recedes to a pinprick of light, a halo that
surrounds him. I have no idea who he is, a perfect stranger in a room
full of them, but something about him stands out and makes me notice.
He has
dark wavy hair and intense blue eyes. He stands squinting in the
doorway and it’s obvious why he’s here. The entire left side of
his face is a swollen mass of discolored skin. He grabs the corner of
his jaw and I notice his knuckles are also split open. Hard eyes scan
the waiting room, and for a second, I glimpse in his face the same
emotion I’m feeling right now.
Anywhere
but here…
Then our
eyes meet. He’s older than me, I can tell. There are whiskers on
his cheeks, and he doesn’t look like a boy.
Especially
not like the boy who did this to me.
The look
lasts only a second, but feels more like an eternity- a stolen
moment in time that exists outside of where we’re at right now. But
like so much in my life, it’s fleeting.

Wow yea.. took me a while to get my emotions in place. A Moment is a story of two very broken people, Ryan and Liliana, it’s dark, gritty, emotionally intense and deals with though subjects that might not be for everyone. I couldn’t put the book down, I found myself completely and utterly invested in the story and it took me on quiet a roller coaster ride.

Liliana is a single mom at 21 years old to a seven year old boy who is autistic and lives with a mother that has health issues. When she got pregnant at 14 her father lost all hope for her and eventually left her and her mother in the time of need. She now has trust issues with man and has went through a lot of stuff with her son and her mother, so she feels she comes with a lot of baggage.

Ryan has his own dark demons and he cannot seem to escape the past that hunts him. His a marine turned fighter who is having a difficult time to dealing with Valentines day due to his past.

The two meet by chance when Alex, Ryan’s cousin asks Liliana to join him on Valentines day in hopes it would help dealing with his cousin.

And the intense roller-coaster begins with night one.

Wow I was really blown away with this book. It does deal with some tough subjects of sexual abuse, and self inflicted injuries. I absolutely loved all the main characters, especially Liliana and Ryan. I thought they were both well developed and written well enough for me to actually feel their pain and their struggles through the book. I love the fact that it was done from both Liliana’s and Ryan’s POV back and forth so we got to explore both of their emotions. It wasn’t an easy read by any means but there was something almost beautiful about Marie’s writing, the way she told their heart-breaking story that bought me to tears more then once and then tied it all together. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and see Alex’s POV!

Not GONE :(!

July 19, 2013 Uncategorized 4

Just wanted to drop by quickly and let everyone know I am not gone. At the beginning of the month we suffered a bunch of thunderstorms which caused us to lose power a lot. Well it came with a price. One day the power kept flickering back and forth and by the time I went to turn off the PC and unplug it something blew and I lost my computer :(
With husband working seven days a week and me helping him life got a little busy and I had not had the chance to go visit a friend until today to get this post up. I am very behind on a lot of things, including a bunch of reviews. We are hoping that the bills will lite up and we will be able to either fix it or afford a replacement. Until then my activity will be a little slow until I can get up to a friends house and drop a couple of more posts!
But I am not gone, I love my blog and hope I can get the activity going again soon!

Anything
But Sweet

Sweet
Texas Series

By:
Candis Terry

Releasing
June 25th,
2013

Blurb
A
man who doesn’t like change . . .
The
Wilder family is something of a Sweet, TX institution: between their
yearly BBQ blow-outs and their Hardware and Feed store, they’re an
institution—an institution that ex-marine Reno Wilder has tried to
preserve, in honor of his lost loved ones. But it seems like he’s
the only one who’s got any respect left for traditions when a new
TV makeover show rolls in to renovate Sweet to bring in more
tourists. Everyone is pleased except Reno—and this cowboy is
determined to keep everything just the way he likes it.

A
woman who wants to change everything . . .

Inquisitive.
Stubborn. Smart. Drop dead gorgeous. That would be makeover show host
and designer, Charlotte Brooks—the woman Reno has declared war
against. And yet, he can’t seem to keep away from her, or to get
her off his mind. Charlotte isn’t afraid to back down from a
challenge—of any kind—and she’s promised to prove to Reno that
change can be sexy, hot, and very, very sweet, if Reno and Charli
learn to let go of their pasts and grab hold of a future full of
promise.

Cute story. Was something different and completely refreshing from the normal things I had been reading this week during the power outage.
I absolutely love small town stories and this one takes places in a small town of Sweet, Texas. I am going to say this now because I loved the supporting characters in the book as well as Reno’s mother and his brothers. They were an absolutely blast.
So change is coming into town in a form of Charlotte brooks, a show host and designer that sets her sights on towns in need of her ‘help’ and picks out a few places she is going to fix up. Of course Reno the ex-marine does not like change and his store just happened to be on the list that Charlotte wants to change when he battled so hard to preserve it. Sparks fly and soon Reno is found himself had to head with a woman who looks like she don’t belong there. Charlotte is not one to back down from a challenge, even if it comes in a form of a hot rancher that makes her heart beat fast every time he flashes those dimples.
I loved Reno, he was so swoon worthy. Besides being stubborn, and I have to say I respected him for that - he is also hard-headed and ruggedly amazing. His an ex-marine and so are the rest of his brothers, but his favorite past time to escape is to paint - which I found endearing. Reno also has a lot of heart and his need to hold onto things and dislike change is a familiar feeling.
I had a hard time connecting to Charlie, I had to admit but she was actually a little too bubble and girly for my taste. It was an odd combo of a rancher and a girl like her but I have to admit the girl has a lot of passion for what she does. Of course the chemistry is there and the bickering between the two drives the storyline of the book. It was fast paced, sassy, witty and fun. I loved the story it was so different and I found myself laughing more then once. I hope there is going to be more of the series, because the writing was truly beautiful. Once I found myself immersed in Sweet, Texas I had a hard time leaving it. Looking forward to more from Candis Terry!
